Updated: Cynwyd trail opens to rave reviews

They came on foot, by bicycle, and – at least one – by pogo stick.

By the time the speeches started, a crowd of 300 to 400 had gathered Sunday, on a perfect Indian Summer afternoon, for the official opening of Lower Merion Township’s Cynwyd Heritage Trail.

“I’m honored to be here at Occupy Cynwyd,” joked Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Chairman James Matthews, one of several invited special guests.

No protest here, though, just celebration of an effort that started nearly six years ago, with extraordinary community buy-in, to transform an abandoned and overgrown rail line into a scenic new multi-use trail.
