Eco-Action-Packed Weekend at Manayunk EcoArts Fest

The First Annual Manayunk EcoArts Festival will be a celebration of artistic, sustainable, and local green initiatives. On Sat., Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., eco-minded artists, green businesses, and ecologically concerned community groups will gather at this free event to share resources and education about green and healthy living.

Event highlights include:
•EcoArts Festival Launch Party at Mango Moon, 4161 Main St. in Manayunk, Thurs., Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. This "green carpet event" will be hosted by Manayunk Development Corporation, Green Drinks Philly, Mugshots Coffeehouse, and Nicole Miller
•Presentation of the Eco-Champion Award to Mayor Michael Nutter, pioneering musician Schooly D and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ryan Madson, Sat., Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
•Live music on the Manayunk Outdoor Stage provided in partnership with the Philadelphia F/M Film and Music Festival.

•Art of Recycling Rain Barrel Design Contest: The top rain barrel designs will be showcased in window displays by Nicole Miller in partnership with Venturi Scott Brown.

•As part of the Destination Schuylkill River project, green-minded artists will be creating work in and around the canal and towpath all weekend.
•Zoo on Wheels: From armadillos to owls, Zoo on Wheels is guaranteed to bring out the animal lover in everyone. Traveling naturalists will be on hand with live animals, touchable artifacts and an eco-friendly make-and-take craft. (Sat. 3-5 p.m., Sun. 11-4 p.m.)

•Eco Car Show: Several energy-efficient and eco-minded automobiles including: West Philly Hybrid X Team/PAI, Hammarhead Industries, Nissan Altima Hybrid, Ford Fiesta and Fusion Hybrids, Mini Cooper, and more.
