Cynwyd Heritage Trail Receives Grant from National Park Service

The Township of Lower Merion has received notification from the United States Department of the Interior that the National Park Service (NPS) has awarded the Cynwyd Heritage Trail a Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance Grant (RTCA).
The grant provides NPS staff time and technical assistance to prepare a Heritage Plan to enhance the heritage experience beyond interpretive signage provided by the federal Preserve America program.

“The Preserve America website [cynwydheritagetrail.com] being operated by the Lower Merion Historical Society was very helpful in demonstrating the partnership between the Township and non-profits in developing the heritage component of the trail,” noted Christopher Leswing, Assistant Director of Building and Planning. The grant runs from Oct 1, 2010 until October 1, 2011.

NPS staff will advise the Township and Historical Society on best practices that are undertaken on Heritage sites across the country and how to engage private partners to assist with funding and implementation of heritage-related activities on the trail.
